In the offer of shops and e-shops you will find respirators with and without a valve. How to choose the right one?

Respirators help protect our health not only during the coronavirus crisis, but also during other infectious diseases, such as the flu or the virus. While wearing protective veils works on the principle: I protect you with my veil and you protect me with your veil, the opposite is true with a respirator – wearing it primarily protects the wearer from the surrounding infection.

Respirators are half masks made of filter material, which in the case of the Good mask respirator is a non-woven fabric that provides the wearer with above-standard respiratory protection against viruses, bacteria, dust and droplets. The respirator class FFP2 and FFP3 is suitable as an effective protection against COVID-19 disease.

respirator with exhalation valve
When choosing a respirator, it is advisable to take into account the basic advantages and disadvantages of both types.

The main advantages of a valve respirator include:

Easier exhalation of air leaving the valve.
The respirator does not heat up the exhaled air unnecessarily, as it exits faster.
The valve helps reduce wetting of the material, which is significantly degraded by the respirator.
Faster release of warm exhalation air reduces possible fogging of the glasses.
However, a valve respirator has one major disadvantage, which is key to its use:
If the wearer of the respirator with the valve is already infected, it spreads the virus to the surroundings, as the valve is not equipped with any protective filter. It is therefore necessary to realize that such a respirator protects only the wearer himself and not other people who come into contact with him.

Suitable solution:
respirator without exhalation valve
It is therefore far more appropriate to wear a respirator without an exhalation valve, as there is no potential for infection of other people in your area.
If you are using a respirator with an exhalation valve, experts recommend that you put a drape over it to serve as an exhalation valve filter. However, this solution can cause some discomfort to the wearer, especially in summer or in warmer environments.

The correct respirator should fit well against the face (therefore it is always advisable to put it on the shaved face) and for better sealing it should have a good nasal reinforcement inserted.
It is advisable to disinfect your hands before wearing the respirator and not to touch the respirator unnecessarily during wear.
If the respirator material becomes wet, it must be replaced with a new one.
The respirator serves as a disposable protective aid.
Don’t forget about other effective measures against virus infection – keep your distance from other people and don’t forget about regular hygiene and disinfection.
